In 1933, the Smith County Bar Association (SCBA) was founded with an inaugural membership of approximately 80 lawyers.

To date, there are over 600 attorneys and various legal organizations in the county providing education and services to their neighbors. These organizations include:
SCB members are thoughtful, dedicated, and committed citizens, who share a vision to improve their community. These attorneys provide a better understanding of the legal system and increase public accessibility to justice for all Smith County residents.
Each year, the SCB offers programs to educate the Smith County youth about the justice system, individual rights, and legal responsibilities. Also, members of the SCB donate countless hours of pro bono legal services to citizens in need.
