Just last week, the Texas Department of Agriculture slashed food bank funding by 44%, despite a record need related to the COVID-19 health crisis. The East Texas Food Bank will now receive $92,373 less in funding, which will result in 738,984 less pounds of produce going out to East Texans in need. The equates to a loss of 615,820 meals.
In order to help fill in that financial gap, SCYLA is hosting a Virtual Food Drive to help the East Texas Food Bank help our East Texas neighbors. Their goal is to raise $2000 by the end of October. Also, SCYLA will match donations up to $500.
